Can any pranayama be done on full stomach? Minimum how much time gap should be there between eating something & doing a pranayam..

1. Ideal time to do pranayama is early morning on empty stomach. It is preferable to clear your bowels before doing pranayama. You can drink a glass of water or lime juice 15 minutes before doing pranayama. Although it is not advisable, if you are habituated to drink bed tea, drink half a cup.

2. The logic of empty stomach means that when you are doing pranayama your intestines must be clear of waste products and all food stuff you have eaten must be digested by the time you do pranayama. In case process of digestion is on, body's energy will be diverted for digestion process whereas while doing yoga, pranayama all energy must be concentrated towards asanas or pranayama.

3. Generally consider doing pranayama 3 to 4 hours after a meal, 45 minutes after tea, juice or fresh fruits, 15 minutes after drinking water.

4. Eat only sattvik yogic food as it is easy to digest, does not load the digestive system.

If you want to do kapalabhati pranayama directly after tea, you can have a 30 minutes gap.

Kapalbhati after milk at night

I did 4 to 5 breaths of kapalbhati after 1.5 hours of having milk at night and then stopped. Today my lower side a paining a bit do I need to worry?

Pranayama is always done on empty stomach. Still four to five breaths should not cause that much pain. If pain persists contact a doctor.

I am 34 years old female. I am diagnosed with type 2 diabetes fasting 174 and after eating 234. Doctor suggest me to take Metformin 500 mg twice a day. Two months ago laparoscopic surgery of endometriosis is done. Can I do yoga to cure diabetes prevent recurrence of endometriosis?

Maximum timing for kapalbhati

I am 35 years old female diagnosed by uterine fibroids since last 2 years with one large about 10 cm and few small 6-3 cm. Doctors adviced to do operation but I am taking time to fix this health condition by pranayam to some extent. I heard the more time we do kapalabhati and anulom vilom the faster we get the results. Like 1 hour continuous kapalbhati followed by double hours of anulom vilom. Is it ok to do so? Kindly suggest.

Light breakfast before pranayam

I need to take an egg, roti and tea which is my daily breakfast or I feel low BP. Can I do pranayam after that? That is not a heavy meal, right? Can I start pranayam half an hour later? Thank you

It is better to take fresh juice or vegetable juice after getting up. Then freshen up and do yoga or pranayama. It is not advisable to do pranayama half an hour after eating breakfast.

Sir, I just want to confirm .
I am drinking a glass of water just after waking up then after bowel movement,I do pranayam for 30 minutes. The gap between drinking water and pranayam is 30 minutes. Is this interval okay.

Additionally I want to do pranayam at evening. So please tell after how many hours after eating lunch I can do pranayam and after drinking water, after how much time I can do pranayam.

Respected Sir,

I'm 26 years old female. I was recently diagnosed with High level of TSH and now with my Anti TPO test - it's an auto-immune disease. It is not genetic for me - it's completely due to lifestyle, diet. Doctor said the treatment is lifelong and started with a very minor dose. He said once diagnosed, auto-immune disease does not go away. My Antibodies are attacking my thyroid gland to malfunction. Except for these result - everything else is absolutely fine. I do have trouble falling asleep and sometimes irregular bowel movements.

Please advise me what Pranayama routine I need to follow.

Am I doing right?

Dear Sir,

My age is 34 yrs and I am a male at 66 kilo and 5.5 feet height. Recently I did complete health check up. My cholesterol, Thyroid, Liver, Kidney, Echo Cardiogram and abdominal USG are all normal. But I have fasting sugar of 103 (checked in November 2016). In the month of September, doctor said my blood pressure is around 150/100 and I need to take medicines. But, I am not using medicines and started exercises, lifestyle changes with good diet. From November on wards I am doing brisk walking for 30 mins and coming home and after 5mins doing Pranayama with following order.
Bhastrika (slow deep breating for 5mins)
Kaphalbhati (200 counts with breaks in between)
Anulom Vilom (15 to 20 cycles)
Bhramari (around 10 counts)
Udgeet (10 to 15 counts)
This takes me around 30 to 40 mins. After that I do Shavasana for 3 mins.
Recently when I checked my blood pressure it is 140/90 (in 15 Jan 2017) and doctor said no medicine is required. But I guess, it should be even lower? or as I am not doing pranayama correctly or time and cycles should be increased? Please suggest sir. Except Bhramari and Udgeet I am unable to do more repetitions for other pranayama? like after doing deep breathing for 5mins, I am feeling uneasy to continue (feeling little dizziness). So, I am doing small exercises in between and continuing the next. Please give you valuable comments on this?

You need to consult a yoga teacher and check your technique for pranayama. Feeling dizziness after doing deep breathing indicates there is some thing wrong with your health or breathing technique. I'm a 23 year old female suffering from gastric pain as well as anal fistula. As such, I find it difficult to do kapalabhati pranayama on empty stomach after waking as my stomach seems to be full of air. Would sincerely appreciate your advice as to what pranayama will be beneficial for my conditions and how/when should I perform them if I'm unable to do so in the morning?

I do Kapalbhati 20 mins daily but while doing it I cannot concentrate. My mind keeps on wandering and I keep looking at the time and get tired fast. Since few days I have started reading while doing Kapalbhati and now I can do 20 mins at a stretch without getting tired. Is it fine to read while doing kapalbhati?

Yoga breathing is not a mechanical process. It demands focus on what you are doing with complete awareness.

I suggest your yoga practice to include few yoga poses. After that sit in any meditative post, close your eyes and do rhythmic breathing for 5 minutes. Gradually increase the duration of rhythmic breathing. Once you are able to focus for longer duration, you can try doing kapalabhati.

Time Gap Between Kapalbhati & Food intake ?

I do pratice kapalbhati early morning after yogasanas and really enjoy it doing.

One thing I would like to ask, what if I want to repeat kapalbhati and anulom vilom in evening around 6.00 or 6.30, because I usually take lunch around 1.15 to 1.30 in afternoon. And then I take take my dinner latest by 7.30 pm.

Is this way advisable?

Be careful about the duration of kapalabhati and bhastrika, start with 2 to 3 sets of 35 breaths each, provided you do not suffer from high blood pressure. I just want to do 4-5 times a day kaphalbhati, anuloma vilom, bhastrika for 5 minutes each followed by meditation. If I practise for longer time does it have any side effects.

What should I do empty bowls in morning

I wake up at around 3:30 to 4 in morning to chant Lords Holy name and worship Him. Inspite of trying so many things, I am not able to empty my bowels in morning, so I am not able to concentrate on my worship and sadhana. I sleep between 9-11 in night. yoga for constipation. Eat more fiber, eat healthy and do regular exercise. Eat one or more bowl of vegetable salad before meals. Take your dinner by sunset time.

In addition, take one teaspoon of triphala powder in Luke warm water before sleeping for a week. After getting up in the morning drink two glass lukewarm water.

1. If it is black coffee, you can do yoga practice after 15-20 minutes, if it is coffee with milk and sugar around half an hour gap should be there. Gradually try to replace coffee with herbal tea and it may also be beneficial for you.

2. In the evening do yoga around sun set time. You must not eat any meal 3 hours prior to yoga. After yoga practice you can have food approx 30 minutes after yoga practice.

Yoga And Pranayama Without Clearing Bowels In The Morning

I am not able to clear my bowels in the morning. I tried drinking lot of water with lime, but no effect. My bowels get clear between 12:00 to 1:00 PM in the noon and then around 7:00 PM in the evening. It is a regular schedule. So can I do yoga and pranayama in the morning without clearing my bowels? Is it harmful to do so? I have listened from someone that doing yoga and pranayama specially kapalbhati and inverted poses without clear bowels is rather harmful. Is it true?

If you take idlis, it will take approximately 3 hours to digest. Instead best option is to take fresh lime juice with honey or fresh fruit juice which may take about 30 minutes to digest. Another option can be to eat a fruit like banana or apple which may take an hour to get digested.
