Trying To Conceive Please Advice Yoga Asanas

by Usha
(London)

Hi

I am 27, and trying to conceive from 6 months. Never on medication till now. I have healthy eating habits. I have started practicing yoga from 2 weeks. Earlier I had irregular practice of yoga and aerobics.

Since I am trying to conceive, I am scared I may lose my unknown pregnancy (early pregnancy before missed period), if I practice yoga or any exercise like aerobics. Not sure it is a misconception but very much confused. Right now, I can do yoga asanas like gomukhasana, matasyasana, shashankasana, vakrasana, saravanghasana, utthanapadasana, dhanurasana and shavasana.

Can you please advice, which asanas I have to do to fulfill my purpose and which asanas should not be done to avoid the abdominal pressure.

Looking forward for your advice?

Thanks
Usha

Answer
You can stop doing aerobics and may continue with your regular yoga practice because regular practice of yoga is the ideal preparation for pregnancy.

However, it is advisable to add pranayama, yoga nidra and omkar chanting for complete relaxation. This will help you to stay happy and stress free.

Take eight hours of deep sleep for rejuvenation of body.

Avoid any situations that induce stress and do not worry at all.

Eat lots of fresh fruits and vegetables.

Happy yogic life, all the best.

Warm regards

Trying to Conceive
by: Rimpu

I am trying to conceive. I do one one hour yoga like kapalabhati, anulom vilom, om chanting, deep breathing and exercise like Cobra pose, bridge pose Surya namaskar and little jumping and skipping. Can I stop after ovulation or continue till periods or till I get the news of conception. Can yoga and exercise effect implantation after fertilisation. Please reply. Please reply sir.

Editors Note
If you are doing yoga regularly it should not effect. As a precautionary measure stop doing kapalabhati and other asanas. You may keep doing meditation, anulom vilom, deep breathing and aum chanting.

Hope it helps

Hello Daljit,

Since sometime now we are trying to conceive. I have been asked to do regular yoga, which i wasn't. Now when I am starting to I had these questions as well, as to whether or not I should start yoga and if it will hamper pregnancy. This post really helped me. thank you so much!

It is very helpful that you have an active online presence.

If I may ask, how long would you consider "regular yoga practitioner" to be? i.e. if I start practicing now, when would it be safe to plan conception? like 1 month, 3 months, 1 year?

Editors Note
I suggest start yoga under guidance. Regular practice can be assumed if you do yoga regularly six days a week for more than a month. You can plan conception any time. However, after 2-3 months of yoga practice your body will get strengthened and hormones will stabilise depending on your present health and your yoga practice..

Hope this helps

asanas advisable for trying to conceive
by: Anonymous

I am Nandhini, age 24. I'm very interested in doing yoga. But after marriage my mother in law told me not to do yoga as it will affect getting pregnant. Is it correct or wrong? And I am also having some problem in uterus (pcod). Still I didn't get pregnant. Please clear my doubts and tell me the advisable asanas to do.

Editors Note
You must check with your doctor so as to get proper diagnosis. Are you having some experience of yoga? It is recommended to do yoga for 60 to 90 minutes. Yoga sequence will depend on your health and fitness and previous experience of yoga. If you know how to do yoga, you can contact me for personalised yoga consultation.

Yoga's to avoid while trying to conceive
by: Anonymous

I wanted to know what are the Asanas which are not to be practised while trying to conceive. But instead of many asking the same question there is no reply. I request you not answer generic in answering the queries. Up to my knowledge as I heard from others and read in some books we should avoid dhanurasana, bhujangasana, shashankasana and kapalbhati. If u can share anything additionally or if I am wrong please let me know and also others...

Editors Note
Still I will recommend a generic practice of one hour consisting of yoga poses, pranayama, yoga nidra and meditation. A balanced yoga practice of up to 90 minutes will harmonise working of various organs, endocrine system, reduce stress and promote positive thinking.

While trying to conceive you may avoid kapalabhati, agnisaar, udiyan bhandha and do not hold breath in any pranayama.

Hope it helps..

Trying to conceive, no success in 6 months
by: Anonymous

Hi, I am trying to conceive for the last 6 months. But its not happening. Can you suggest any yoga asanas to increase chances of conceiving? I had never done yoga before.

Editors Note
You need to start with a balanced yoga sequence of yoga asanas, pranayama and meditation. A well balanced yoga practice will strengthen your body, balances the hormone levels. Thereafter you may focus on specific practices for increasing chances of conception. You may find more information for starting yoga on this site. In case of any further query do let me know.

Yoga and pranayama sequence While trying to convince
by: Anonymous

Hi,
We are planning for baby since May but till now no positive sign. Can you pls suggest me the sequence of yoga poses and pranayama to get improvement in fertility. Whether surya namaskaram can done on regular basis?

Thank in advance

Editors Note
You can carry on with any generic yoga sequence consisting of yoga poses, pranayama, meditation/ relaxation. Another key areas to focus on are weight loss and eating healthy. Next step is to increase the duration of yoga practice. You will get positive results hope fully. Taking care of overall health in a holistic way with yoga is more important than focusing on few selected yoga poses.

Hope this helps

Sarvangasana while trying to conceive
by: Anonymous

Hi,

I am trying to conceive. Can I do sarvanghasana till I conceive? If I conceive, will sarvangasana which I would have done before missed period have bad effect on the fetus? Please advise. Is there any yogasana which should be avoided while trying to conceive?

Editors Note

Trying to conceive
by: Anonymous

Hello,

I'm 39 years old and am trying to conceive. I've had 2 miscarriages last year within a gap of around 6 months. I had been doing yoga and meditation from many years, but over the last two years i.e, after marriage I've not been able to continue yoga. Again though I've begun regular yoga practice since last six months. I am also trying to conceive, but have not been successful yet. I thought yoga would help me to conceive. I do feel the difference as in being more active and feel the pelvic muscles have become strong, but no good news as yet. Is it okay for me to continue with the yoga for my age? Does it cause any delay in conception if I do yoga at this age? Please let me know.
Thanks and Regards,

Editors Note
1. You may continue doing yoga till pregnancy is confirmed. Yoga practice will help you in conceiving.
2. You need to do yoga poses, yoga breathing and meditation.
3. Reduce weight if overweight and eat healthy.
4. Practice meditation to reduce stress levels and achieve complete relaxation.

Hope it helps

Asanas
by: Anonymous

Dear Daljit,

You have been mentioning quite frequently " to avoid asanas that are not recommended during pregnancy ". But Could you please list out which are the asanas?

Also would like to know the "Asanas to avoid" while trying to conceive or while expecting a Postive sign (in the coming last week of the cycle). Please explain in detail - What asanas to be stopped and if yes, from when. Thank you so very much. Your reply shall help many women who pray to conceive and to be cautious during unknown preg. Namaste !!

Editors Note
While trying to conceive, there is no restriction on asana and pranayama. Once pregnancy is confirmed, do yoga under guidance of a yoga teacher who can guide you depending on your physical strength and proficiency in yoga.

I am trying to concieve
by: Anonymous

I am also trying for pregnancy. My question is can I do all yoga asanas if I am trying for conceive.
I am doing all asana like dhanurasana and halasana. Can these asanas hamper my unknown pregnancy? Suppose I am doing yoga and during this I become pregnant.

Editors Note

In case you are already doing these asanas, you can continue with your yoga sequence. In addition to yoga asanas, practice pranayama and do proper rest and relaxation in shavasana at the end of your yoga practice. If time permits practice yoga nidra also.

When your pregnancy is confirmed, you can avoid asanas that are not recommended during pregnancy.

All the best.

Practise of Yoga - when trying to conceive
by: Vasundhara

I have doubt with regard to practising of yoga when I am planning to conceive.

I am practising yoga. The postures are first I will start padmasana, butterfly pose - Bhadrasana, Vajrasana,Paschimotanasana, Bhujangasana, Bow pose, body twisting(sorry for not), Chakrasana, Ardha Chakrasana, Sethu Bandh, Fish pose, Yoga Nidra and Shavasana. This is followed by Pranayamam (Alom Vilom and Kapalabhati).

So my question is I am right now planning to conceive. So shall I continue practising yoga during the period from the day when my periods got missed (which might have got missed even for getting pregnancy) until conformation from doctor.

Editors Note

You can continue with your yoga sequence.
When your pregnancy is confirmed by the doctor, you can avoid asanas that are not recommended during pregnancy.

Hope this helps. All the best.

Thanks
