I am new to working in night shift. I am thinking of joining a yoga class. But I do not know which time would be correct for doing yoga. I work from 9.30 PM to 7.30 AM. I am not getting proper sleep in the day time. I usually wake up around 3.30 PM. Please suggest me whether to do yoga in the morning after 7.30 AM or in the evening around 6 PM? Which would be better? Also I need a proper at a stretch sleep for at least 7 hours during the day time.
Answer
I suggest you do yoga in the evening around 6 P.M.
If you do yoga in the morning after night shift you will be too tired and maybe hungry also. It is not recommended to do yoga when tired. Ideally after coming home, relax a bit, take bath, eat food and sleep for 7 hours after some time. You must eat a healthy breakfast after coming home. If you eat too heavy meals, your sleep will be disturbed.
When you wake up in the evening you do yoga empty stomach. At this time you will be fresh after taking adequate sleep. Also, when you go to work after yoga, you will have better energy levels.
You need to drink plenty of water during your duty hours and take healthy snacks around midnight so that your energy levels are maintained.
In order to get better sleep, you need to relax completely after reaching home so as to get over all the work related stress. Before entering your house imagine that you have left all your worries at office and make mental resolve that you will relax at home. When you get home, you may drink any herbal tea or green tea. For better relaxation, lie down in shavasana for 5-10 minutes. While in shavasana, try rhythmic breathing and focus on your breath.
Hope this helps
